Rollos flexibles de LEDFlexible LED strips- 10 -How to choosetheappropriate LED strip?We are sure that all professionals have ever questioned what difference strips led to others, if in fact all of them, the chea-pest and the most expensive, starting look and function with similar results.Well, like any technology product there are dozens of factors affecting quality and therefore, LED strip reliability.The price differences in the market leading to some models to be worth three times more than others, refl ect important reasons why everything.We can say there are two main factors that infl uence the price of a LED strip / reel:1) LED DEVICE BY ITSELF.2) The PCB (printed circuit board) in which the LEDs are assembled.In the case of LED device, there are fi ve factors that infl uence quality and hence the price.A) THE SIZE OF THE CHIP.Normally there are led chips (the inner semiconductor part, which is not seen ...) that are manufactured in several in Asia countries with different qualities and above all, different size.Cheaper chips mounted on low cost LED strips are 7x7 mil size, made in China in second order factories. They are very unstable quality chips, non selected materials and having problems after 6-8 months of use.The 8x15 mil size chips are manufactured elsewhere and offer better performance and stability. It is always used in appli-cations with more commitment and professional.B) PHOSPHORUS.The yellow top coating is phosphorus which is responsible homogeneity hue and having the light emitted by the LED chip.In China there are Phosphorous providers with very low quality it costs about 10 times less than an American or Japanese supplier of the same material.The use of low quality material results in light emission turned blue or green, after few months and of course, signifi cant differences temperature color tone between batches.C) THE GOLDEN THREAD.The chip semiconductor part is connected to LED external legs with fi ne gold threads.“Low Cost” manufacturers use copper for this function.No need to dwell on this difference and midterm results of using one material or another.D) PACKAGING SEALING.Tiny capsules containing chip and phosphorus are closed with special adhesives.The cheaper manufacturers use epoxy resin for this function. This material is very unstable at temperature changes, tends to crystallize and contract, so that cracks may be generated making easy the air passage leading into the chip causing their destruction.A high quality LED has its closed capsule provided with special silicone-based glues that avoid these problems but they are much more expensive.For the issue of PCB Ribbon have some considerations:A)UsingSINGLE SIDED PCB copper saves up to 40% in manufacturing costs compared to the use of a “double face”.Less copper = smaller cost = bad heat dissipation = smaller led lifetime.Even riskier manufacturers use less copper thickness what is inherently reckless.B)UseSOLDERING PASTEof low quality.Current regulations worldwide Rohs meet to use lead-free soldering, which forces to use silver to replace it.It is clear that the most economical manufacturers are not ready to use silver welds.It is easy to detect this difference, welds made with Rohs silvered pastes shine with a silver hue, while those who do not respect this criterion still using leaded pastes in composition denoting a less shiny and matte gray.
